Increased Email Security Coming Soon
Starting October 28, 2025, Stanford University will enhance email security for all faculty, students, and staff by automatically enabling Proofpoint URL Defense, which protects against malicious links in emails.
What's changing?
The URL Defense security tool will rewrite email links to start with "https://urldefense.com/…" for added safety. Users do not need to take any action for this update, although those forwarding emails to external addresses will not have this protection and are advised to remain vigilant against phishing attempts.
This initiative aligns with Stanford's ongoing commitment to digital security, coinciding with Cybersecurity Awareness Month. For further information, users are encouraged to refer to the URL Defense FAQs or contact the Information Security Office.
