Citrix client installation: Step-by-step for Windows

In most cases, the Connect site will detect when you need a new version of the Citrix client installed, and will launch the process for you, automatically. If this does not happen, you can install the Citrix client from the Connect site by going to the "Preferences" tab and clicking on "Connection Preferences". On this page, click on the button that says "Run Plugin Detection". On the next page, check the "Download Plugin" box and click on the "Download" button.

  • You will see a dialog box asking for your permission to run "XenAppWeb.msi" -- this is the Citrix client installer. Select the option to Run the installer. If you do not have an option to Run, select "Save" or "Download" but you must then be sure to launch the installation process in order to install the client. You do not need to be an Administrator to install the Citrix client on Windows.
  • This process uses ActiveX controls. If you see a warning message about ActiveX, you should allow it for this page.
  • Allow a few minutes for the installation process to run. It may take some time, so please be patient!
  • When the process is complete, you will see a message that the installation completed successfully.
  • After the client installation is complete, IE users may see a new webpage telling you how to add the Connect website to one of the "trusted sites" zones. This is not required, but it will improve the way the site launches on your desktop.
  • Click "Continue" to see your applications.
